What Is Textile Collage Art?

Textile collage is created by layering fabrics and other materials onto a base surface, often stretched canvas or quilt backing. Artists may incorporate materials such as:

  • hand-painted fabric

  • paper imagery and napkin transfers

  • ink details

  • stitched or quilted textures

These elements are then secured with free-motion machine stitching or hand stitching, allowing the surface to become richly textured and visually dynamic.
