A Simple Guide to Taking Apart Old Jeans
If you want to try upcycling denim yourself, start with one pair of old jeans. Turn them inside out. Use a seam ripper to remove the hem at the bottom. Cut along the inseam and outseam to create flat panels. Save the waistband, pockets, and belt loops separately. Do not throw away the zipper fly. Those pieces can become straps, tabs, or small pouches. It takes patience, but the result is beautiful fabric that already has character. No two pairs are the same.
